The Young Man and the Starfish

So my aunt came to me with this challenge. She said she has $15 for me to revamp this...

She wanted a new frame and for the story to look nicer... The only part she wanted to keep were the actual words of the story themselves. She wanted it to match with some of the rustic artwork she had on a particular wall in her house.

So one trip to Hobby Lobby later I had my supplies... Crazy enough, absolutely everything I needed was half off! Making my spending total a whopping eleven dollars.

 I bought two pieces of that green frilly paper to make sure that I could have at least one mess up. Which I am really glad I did because I promptly jacked the first one up! It's all good fun thought, right? :)

So this is the side by side comparison! My end result on the left and her beginning idea on the right.

What do you think? :)

My End Table Trunk

So I scored this awesome trunk at an antique store for $10!

So, I loved the chest but I wanted to brighten it up a bit because I wanted it to match the things I'm taking to college with me. Most everything in my hope chest is pastel and vintage. So my game plan was color. I also wanted to elevate the trunk off the ground and make it into an end table/storage space. So I went to Lowes, my go-to place, and bought legs, top plates, pastel green spray paint, and light brown paint. So, mix it all together with a borrowed stencil and...  The Reveal!

And now I am totally in love with it! :) It sits at the foot of my bed and is the new home for all of my craft supplies! I am planning on designing a small bed side table to match! Plus I love how easy it was, it ended up taking me awhile because I was slow figuring out exactly how I wanted it to look. But now, I could do it in like two days if I wanted to (cause of dry time)

DIY Chalkboard Frame

So lately everyone has been going on and on about their new chalkboards, which are all adorable. The other day while perusing through the aisles of Home Depot, I spotted chalkboard spray paint! I had never heard of it before! So I called my awesome sister-in-law to ask how legit it was and she said it has four stars on Amazon! So I naturally grabbed it up! Then I got to thinking... What in the world am I going to use this on? A few months ago I had one of my favorite photo frames broken by my best friend (which she vehemently denies, but I was there and saw it happen!) ANYWAYS, I pulled it out of the craft chest and behold! It would work perfectly. So here's the gist of the fun-

broken frame beforehand-

I first sanded down the glass and then primed it before I added the chalkboard spraypaint. You have to wait 24 hours before playing with it... I added three coats of spray paint :) {not including primer}

Then I hot glued everything together...

Then I had exactly what I wanted! A mini chalkboard! It will be on the wall with the two other matching rectangle frames I have around it in no time. I love the way it turned out.I doodled on it for about an hour after I was finished! :)
